Our Niche
Baseline studies and setting up indicator targets: IDLG undertakes baseline studies and supports organizations and projects to set realistic targets for indicators and provide a benchmark for monitoring. We assist in defining data needs for indicators and designing the most appropriate tools and methodologies to collect indicator data to enhance targeting, results measurement and follow up.
Qualitative and quantitative performance evaluations: We undertake performance evaluations to assess whether projects are achieving their set outcomes and targets and provide recommendations for improvement. We use both qualitative and quantitative approaches
Data Quality Assessments and Audits: IDLG also undertakes data quality assessments and data quality audits for organizations to ensure validity, reliability, precision, timeliness and integrity and provide support to clean and enhance data quality.
Impact Evaluations: We undertake robust impact evaluations to address the problem of the extent changes in outcomes of interest or impacts can be attributed to a particular intervention. In doing this we both isolate and estimate accurately the particular contribution of an intervention and ensure that causality runs from the intervention to the outcome. We use rigorous impact assessment methodologies such as double difference method and propensity score matching approaches and qualitative methods such as General Elimination Methodology (GEM) and Causal Contribution Analysis to achieve this.
Success story documentation: We document program and project results using key qualitative methods such as most significant change and outcome harvesting and documentation of success stories. We produce ready to publish documentation.
Training/Capacity building: We offer training in Results Based Management, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning. This can be contextualized for various development and humanitarian sectors including peace building and conflict management, health, nutrition, agriculture, water and sanitation, environmental conservation, climate change, education, early childhood development, refugee care, micro enterprises among others.
Research partnerships: We have research partnerships across the whole country for effective data collection. We have networks in all 47 counties in Kenya. Enumerators are selected from local communities to ease communication as many communities are more comfortable telling their story in the local language. Enumerators are thoroughly trained on the tools, provided data collection manuals and take part in piloting to ensure the data to be collected is reliable and valid. In addition, several enumerators are paired with a supervisor for continued support. There are systematic data checks during data collection to assure the integrity of the process.
Research Approach: IDLG mainly uses mixed methods approaches in research. We ensure cost effective and efficient ways of collecting quantitative data through digital data collection, saving time for and reducing errors during data entry. Data points are also mapped using GIS to enable the user to have evidence and also for production of results maps for better results communication. Quantitative data is analyzed using software such as SPSS and Excel. The data is given statistical meaning through tests of significance. We also undertake detailed qualitative studies using methods such as ethnography. Data from FGDs and KIIS, is analyzed using Atlas Ti and Nvivo.
Setting up monitoring & evaluation systems and digital data management
We design and develop software systems that support program operations for organizations including Project Management Systems and Data Collection platforms hosted in the cloud.
